BOOK + CD THE SECRET OF LIFE
This catalogue documents the collaboration between sculptor Vera Lossau and me, and the resulting exhibition at the Duisburg Kunstverein. The format and typography of the cover, as well as its colour and materiality, are based on the design of old sheet music. Many elements of the interior refer to classic art catalogues. However, these are broken up by a commentary and reference system (in magenta) and a ‘making-of’ section, which consists of email correspondence between the artists and documentary photos. The making-of section and the comments provide insight into the development process and thus convey the dialogue between the two protagonists from different disciplines. The publication is rounded off by a CD with recordings of the sound sculptures in a bag specially designed and produced for the catalogue. The book contains texts by Noemi Smolik, Barbara Barthelmes and Hartmut Hauschildt. The catalogue is also presented on the website of "Sichtvermerk", the creative and enthusiastic design office with which Vera Lossau an I collaborated.
